Oak Pegs
These are suitable for signs no higher than 150mm. The two pegs are 600mm long to allow 300mm in the ground and a clearance of 150mm from ground surface to bottom of sign

Small Oak Posts
These are made from seasoned oak which is planed down to 50mm x 50mm. They are ideal for medium sized signs with a ground clearance of up to 450mm. (18") When you are calculating the length allow at least 450mm (18") underground. The posts are treated with Danish Oil.

| Large Oak Posts
Oak is strong, heavy, durable and very beautiful, but compared to softwood it is expensive. Providing it is treated regularly with Danish Oil it will stay beautiful for a very long time. I wish it were that easy for us!

The 3" x 3" post is suitable for most signs. It is shown in the photo opposite with 100mm high mortised fingers .

| Mortised Joints
It looks infinitely better to mortise a sign into the posts rather than screwing onto the posts. Cost £7.50 per mortise joint.
The sign in the photo was 300mm high by 700mm wide and was mortised into 1.8m 3"x3" oak posts. The price including VAT and P&P is in the region of £375.
If you want a cheaper sign use softwood posts.

| Softwood Posts
Softwood is a cheaper alternative to oak, but when treated with a black preservative still looks very attractive.
Just as with oak signs can be mortised into the post or screwed onto posts. For tall posts allow 2ft underground.

4"x 4" 100x100mm - £6.95 per 300mm (foot)
A 3"x3" post as shown in photo opposite is suitable for most signs. This arrow sign and post costs about £98

Post with Arm for Hanging Signs
The post with a mortised arm for hanging signs can be made in oak or softwood. The post is 2.4m high and the arm is made to suit the sign. The prices include the post with mortised arm, chains and fittings.
